I don't think giving friends critique is a bad thing, the problem was how it was done. First: if they should learn from each other then everyone of those four should have danced and being judged plus judging the others. Secondly it was focused on mistakes only. Critique should include both, the good and the bad things. But Abby asked specifically for the things Chloe did wrong. It must be awkward to be the only one out of the group standing there and being told in front of everyone what you did wrong.

Ooof this is like the first time ive seen chloe talk back. Also i dont think anyone was mean in this each girl was forced to give a correction. People saying maddie was mean are just biased and finding more reasons not to like her but every girl did the exact same thing. Im a fan of both maddie and chloe and I'm super tired of the biased comments and the hate between the two of them…

If I was her friend and Abby said to judge her I would say “it’s was perfect” even if it’s not

It is constructive criticism. You will never improve if you are not able to accept the feedback and apply it.

Abby wanted the girls to focus on what Chloe was doing wrong ("Go ahead! Tell her what she was doing wrong."), whenever they tried to say something nice she brushed it off like it was nothing. Abby, whilst you can learn from others mistakes, you can also learn what they do well and what makes them a good dancer. I was always told that when watching other girls dance, is to watch what they do best and apply it to your practice. But this isn't critiquing, this is Abby basically telling the girls to only give Chloe things she's "doing wrong", which is a completely harsh way of phrasing "What does she need to improve on?". She is ignoring everything that is positive, which children and teenagers at this age need to fill up their confidence bank. You have to say what a person is doing well at, especially when they're kids with low self-esteem (and you can tell from this video alone that Chloe has very low self-esteem from her body language, her shoulders are hunched over, and she's crossing her arms over her body). You can see how uncomfortable these girls are with picking out the negatives and all the negatives were very small things, like eye-contact and transitions, which are both easily fixable. However, I didn't see this to be any issues in this rehearsal or even in her final performance. None of them actually pointed out that she needs more balance on her turns which was a bit of an issue in her final performance, which means they are uncomfortable and you should never push a child to do something when they feel uncomfortable.

If Abby told had Chloe "This is going to help them get better by watching you. And you get better by practicing in front of them." It would have made all the difference in the world. But of course, she didn't. She just said it to the camera.     Abby's intentions as a teacher are rarely wrong it's her words that make them come out hurtful or as a put down.

Part of me understands that this is constructive and helpful, but, part of me is upset because Abby only did this to Chloe’s solo..

Maddie probably didn't want to tell Chloe what was wrong so she could be better and not help chloe
