'American Idol' Hopeful Booted From Hollywood Because Of Criminal Background
An ‘ American Idol ‘ contestant who received a golden ticket in Denver had her trip to Hollywood canceled by producers after they learned about her criminal background. Danelle Hayes wowed the judges in the Mile High City with her raw take on Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m The Only One.” And her backstory — she’s a single mom who’s been knocking around the lower end of the music business for years — resonated with producers enough that she...

Olympics help NBC skate to the top of the ratings
Friday's Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics was the most-watched program of the week, seen by nearly 33 million viewers. Prime-time coverage on Sunday and Saturday ranked third and fourth, respectively.

Overall, NBC won last week with an average of 16.1 million viewers (8.9 rating, 14 share), and could be in for two more weeks of Olympics dominance.

American Idol, Simon Cowell Regrets Decision
Jessica Furney, "So close..." Furney was in the group that butchered singing "Sweet Escape", failing to remember the words. When Simon Cowell cut them off mid-song, Furney rightly objected, "I didn't even get to sing my part!" Cowell apologized, and Randy Jackson cued the band to start up again on her verse. Although she knew the words, she hadn't saved enough of her voice from the rehearsals the night before or perhaps it was the pressure of being in a group that was...

News and notes from NBC's Olympics coverage
IDOLATRY: With "American Idol" in the picture, the Olympics are still silver medalists.

"American Idol" recap: Who will make the final 24?
After the melodramatic beginning of the show, "American Idol" got down to business. Contestants were placed in three different rooms to learn their fate forever and ever amen. Only two out of the three rooms would make it to the next round. Which room was going to be like "Saw VII"? Would there be 3D glasses? Would grief counseling be made available? And the waiting. The waiting was interminable. These contestants were one talented group, but they sucked at waiting. The waiting was...
