These days, the idea of erasing something like a film from existence is kind of ridiculous — nothing disappears completely. Still, that doesn’t mean that studios haven’t occasionally done their best to bury a particularly embarrassing film. Here are some movies that studios tried, and mostly failed, to erase from existence…

Fantastic Four | 0:19
The Big Boss – Mandarin cut | 1:12
Citizen Kane – Colorized version | 1:55
The Star Wars Holiday Special | 2:36
Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story | 3:23
Nosferatu | 4:10

What other movies should've made this list?

At least 90's Fantastic Four was a better movie adaptation than Fantastic 4 or Fant4stic. And I don't think Nosferatu should even be called a ripoff cause I call it an unofficial independent book to movie adaptation and a good one.

Salo should be erased so that Taste of Cinema's Facebook page won't keep including it on just about every list they create.

Someone back me up on this; you know what I speak of. 10 Provoking Films…Salo's there. 10 Films You Should See Despite Being Gag-Worthy…Salo's there. 10 Comic Gems…Salo isn't there but someone was dying to include it. =P

The prequels and the current SW films are even better than "The Star Wars Holiday Special".

    Princess Leia singing? Please!

Also, seeing this explains why the plan for having a Wookie planet in ROTJ changed to being an Ewok planet instead.

"Dark Blood", the movie that River Phoenix was filming when he died.

Great stuff. One quibble: it can't be true that only one print of Nosferatu survived, as there have been several restorations incorporating footage from prints from different countries.

I dont think Looper are correct in their FF4 comments. FF4 was made "deliberately" bad just to keep copyright of the brand. Also rumors has it that the FF4 was closer to the FF4 comics than all blockbuster movies afterwards.

What about Disney's Oscar-winning "Song of the South"? Ill-informed people despise it because it shows "happy slaves" in the American South… but the movie actually takes place AFTER the Civil War, so those weren't "happy slaves", those were "happy freed slaves".

The Star Wars Holiday Special is awesome to watch when you are high as fuck. A great party movie when everyone is passing the blunt around.

It's hilarious how George Lucas thought the holiday special was disappointing. I guess some people have no ability to hear a really really bad idea and realize it's going to turn out poorly. I guess he also thought Jar Jar Binks was going to be a really good character. And wasn't he responsible for Howard the Duck? It's funny how people have one good idea, even brilliant, so we assume everything that pops out of their brain is going to be just as good. Nope.

I was young when it came out, but I remember liking the Star Wars holiday special. It showed where the wookies lived and that cool tree house.
